About the Initiative
Mass General Brigham and the West Health Institute have established the West Health Accelerator (WHA) at Mass General Brigham (MGB), a $16.4 million, multi-year initiative that is raising the standard of care for older adults across the MGB health system. Led by the Brigham’s Zara Cooper, MD, MSc, and Rachelle Bernacki, MD, MS, and informed by their decades of service to MGB patients, the WHA at MGB is employing a proven framework to transform care for MGB’s largest patient population—adults aged 65+—who make up more than half of annual inpatient stays.

Its three nonprofits: the Gary and Mary West Foundation, West Health Institute, and West Health Policy Center work together to fuel new and innovative programs, practices, and policies that ensure successful aging and affordable healthcare for all Americans. Since 2006, West Health has funded and helped shape more than $500 million in initiatives focused on successful aging.
The West Health Accelerator at Mass General Brigham, established in 2024, will expedite the development of high-quality, innovative and ready-to-implement healthcare programs that effectively and holistically meet the needs of America’s fast-growing senior population.
