Q&A

Why are you passionate about caring for older adults?

Leah Slattery: One of the reasons I'm passionate about caring for older adults is the incredible amount of rich experience they have to share with us and the lessons they can teach us. Learning about the life experiences of older patients has been inspirational to me over the years.

What’s one small change that can make a big difference in the care of older adults?

LS: I think one thing that can improve the care of older adults across the healthcare scope is our ability to have patience with them as well as with ourselves. There are always time constraints working in medicine, but if we can try to take a moment to be as patient as possible in speaking with our elders, it can really go a long way.

What do you hope to achieve in the West Health Champions program?

LS: I believe the program will empower me to approach patient care with the skills to improve their experience.
