About the West Health Accelerator

Our Mission
To transform care for older adults
We imagine a healthcare system where:
Evidence-based best practices are supported by innovative technology-driven solutions that improve health outcomes, create new operational efficiencies and reduce costs.
Quality and affordable care is person-centered, coordinated and connected rather than fragmented, siloed.
Standards, practices and protocols are scalable across regions and healthcare settings and easily adopted nationwide.
Our goal is to create a movement that works to raise the standard of care for older adults in ways that benefit the whole health system and leads to better health outcomes for everyone.
What is the current landscape of aging in America?
By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans will be 65 or older.
We are in the midst of one of the biggest demographic shifts in U.S. history. By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans will be 65 or older, leading to an exploding demand for healthcare tailored to the unique, complex needs of seniors. At the same time, Medicare is anticipated to lack the funding to cover needed care for the over 68 million beneficiaries by 2033.
Older adults account for 50% of inpatient admissions at MGB.
We are ensuring the best possible care for our patients, with tailored enhancements for this large patient population. MGB patient priorities are at the heart of everything we do.
Most hospitals are inadequately equipped to care for older adults.
Healthcare systems across the country are not scaled or structured to care for this growing patient population. There is an urgent need for easily implementable tools and approaches designed to provide better, safer and affordable care for seniors. At MGB, we are leading the nation in transforming care.
