Meet the West Health Accelerator Team: Morgan Steward, MBA

Morgan Steward is a healthcare manager at Huron Consulting Group. In this role, Morgan partners closely with the West Health Accelerator at Mass General Brigham team to support best practice implementation and operationalize the Accelerator’s work at scale in hospitals across the country.

What drew you to a career in healthcare?

While I was in college at the University of Missouri, I played Division I football as a running back. I had a career-ending hip injury that required multiple surgeries, so I spent a lot of time in the hospital with doctors, nurses and physical therapists. Even as a younger person who was otherwise completely healthy, with top medical care, the process took significant time, coordination and support. It was a tough road to recovery and took years for me to get back to being fully healthy.

That experience made me more aware of how complex a care journey can be and gave me a deeper appreciation of the importance of building reliable, well-designed systems of care — especially for older adults, who often have even more complex healthcare needs. While I was getting my master’s and thinking about what I wanted to specialize in, healthcare stood out because of the impact I could have.

What do you enjoy about working on the West Health Accelerator?

As a healthcare manager at Huron, I love that I get to partner with health systems on initiatives that improve the way they do their work, provide their care and serve patients. I really want to make a strong impact, so it’s been great to partner with Mass General Brigham and West Health to help ensure they have everything they need to make meaningful change. It feels like we’re one team and that’s been special.

West Health is extremely thoughtful, mission-driven and super committed to partnering alongside the teams. And I’ve been impressed by Mass General Brigham’s determination to keep building, learning and pushing forward to achieve the greatest possible impact. They take the time to deeply understand the problem they’re trying to solve and thoughtfully design solutions to ensure they’re in the best position for meaningful, lasting change, especially within their system. It’s been really cool to see how intentional and thoughtful they are in their approach to improving care for older adults.

What excites you about the Accelerator?

It’s been incredible to start hearing stories from the field and some early impact and data results. I’m really excited to see the design and implementation of the West Health Accelerator translate into real-life results for patients. I’m also excited about the growing interest from other health systems and the opportunity, over time, to extend this work across the country.
